Mood board
I started by creating a mood board with a mix of UI elements and the visual aesthetic I wanted my app to have. I also analyzed layouts used in competing music apps, like Spotify and Apple Music. I wanted sync to have a clean and easy to navigate layout, combined with bold colors and fun elements. Funky minimalism was my largest inspiration!
Brand name and logo design
I designed a logo and identity for my app that spoke to it's core purpose - community. I named my app Sync to align with the idea that people come together on this app to find a sense of digital community through their shared interest in music.

For my logo design, I wanted to further visualize the idea of togetherness. I equally stacked the four letters on top of one another to form a square. In a way, the letters represent users of the app. It represents unique individuals who come together in a shared space to create new connections, share music, and discover new interests.

The icon serves a similar purpose. When animated, the rings would join together as one and separate to highlight individuality and togetherness. It's also used as a way to visualize syncronization.
Style guide
I created a style guide to reference for the rest of my assets.
App design
For the design of the app itself, I wanted to combine accessibility with a welcoming community. I used casual language, bright colors, and fun icons to create a minimal yet playful space. I also reused elements of the sync icon within the UI to further tie it into the brand identity and create a sense of movement.
