Mr. Robot Poster and Title Sequence

Mr. Robot is a drama / thriller TV series created by Sam Esmail for the USA network. The show follows Elliot, a cybersecurity engineer and hacker who experiences social anxiety disorder, depression, and drug abuse. Esmail mirrors Elliot’s experience with mental illness through depicting him as an unreliable narrator, causing viewers to question reality throughout the series. As a result, one of the major themes within the show is the illusion of control - which is the inspiration for my minimalist poster design and animated title sequence.

In order to connect my static and motion work, I used circuit wire illustrations in both pieces. In my poster, the wires are connecting the main character to the invisible hands that control his unreliable behavior. In the title sequence, I animated these elements as a way to draw the viewer’s eye to important text.
